Introduction The Profiles of Pioneer Women in Aviation provides background on the women whose pioneering spirit I have portrayed in my art works. I have written most of the profiles based on research (both verbal and visual) that I was drawn into as the works grew from Amelia to van Zandt. The living relatives of some famous historical figures have contributed enormously to the spirit of the art and my personal knowledge . A few of the profiles were written by the pilots themselves, which gives a rich, personal touch that I could not have achieved without their input and friendship.
